From about 7:30 to 9:30 in the evening in the summer, this is what my backyard sounds like:
I live in a fairly dense city neighbourhood, and while there used to be several trees scattered about in adjacent yards, as of last summer, the red maple in my backyard is the only large tree standing for five houses in either direction. As a result, a congregation of a hundred birds or so sing their hymns each evening in the red tree. It gets to be quite a din most evenings, lovely in its way. The sample is only 20 seconds long as one of the neighbours’ dogs chose to bark at roughly 20 second intervals the night I was trying to record.
