This is interesting in a “why o why lord” sort of way.
D16 Group, the masters of missed-the-point photo realism, have a new drum machine VST plugin on its way. Their 303 clone Phoscyon didn’t really do much for me, but then most synths rarely do much for me these days (although a photo-realistic 303 software clone does even less for me than most synths).
But this one might actually make more sense looking like it does. The form it imitates is actually a good simple approach to to the task at hand, something the 303 interface I personally think isn’t, and a lot of 808/909 clone software seems to have forgotten just how good/easy the initial design was.
So, we’ll have to see what this thing is like when it’s available. Ain’t cheap though. Here’s a link to the d16 page.
